Coriander Seeds: How to Plant (Step-by-Step Guide)
Dhaniya known as cilantro, is a popular herb easily grown from seeds.
-
Choose the right time: Coriander prefers cooler weather. In India, plant seeds during late fall or early spring. Avoid the hot summer months.
-
Prepare the pot: Fill your pot with a well-draining potting mix. Moisten the soil lightly with the watering can.
- Soaking: Coriander seeds soaked in water overnight benefit and it’s recommended before Sowing.
- Sow the seeds: Dhaniya seeds should be planted a 1/4 (quarter) of an inch deep. Simply press 2-3 seeds directly onto the damp soil, by planting about 8 to 10 Cilantro seeds per pot and spacing them about 2-3 inches apart.
-
Cover the seeds: Gently cover the seeds with a thin layer of additional potting mix.
-
Watering: Water gently again using a spray bottle or watering can with a gentle setting to avoid disturbing the seeds. Aim to keep the soil moist but not soggy.
-
Germination: Place the pot in a location with indirect sunlight or partial shade. Germination typically takes 7-14 days.
-
Growing: Coriander plants mature, they’ll benefit from full sun. Water regularly, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
-
Harvesting: You can start harvesting coriander leaves once the plants reach about 6 inches tall. Regularly pick leaves to encourage bushier growth and continued production.
